Remember you’re South of the Equator. Argentina’s summers are your winters, and their winters are your summers. But even in June and July the temperature is a comfortable 64 degree Fahrenheit, and in January and February the days average an enjoyable 83 degree Fahrenheit.
Buenos Aires (pop. 13 million) is a fast-paced city, very cosmopolitan but with its inhabitants knowing the value of family, friends, and conversation. Kisses on the cheeks to and from both men and women break the ice immediately, and you’ll feel at home in no time.
- Walk, bus, or metro through all 48 barrios (neighborhoods) of the city, each distinct in sites, smells, and tastes.
- Chat it up with local Portenos your age at any of the thousands of nigh clubs open-air cafes.
- Kick a soccer ball around and join one of the many “futbol” clubs organized by fellow classmates in college.
- Tour the Casa Rosa, or Pink House, home of Argentina’s president, or watch Congressmen debate in session from the ornate viewing gallery at El Congreso
