Emergency Plan
Every effort is made by Panrimo to assist students in times of need, especially in an emergency situation. Described below is an outline of the steps taken by Panrimo’s emergency response team and its staff abroad. Nothing mentioned herein is a guarantee that the action will occur, and nothing stated here constitutes a contract between Panrimo and its participants. It is meant as a general procedure and guide for students, parents, and study abroad advisors to be familiar with how Panrimo operates if an emergency situation were to occur.
Orientation before and abroad
You will most likely go through extensive meetings and safety discussions at your own university before going abroad. Whether that occurs or not, Panrimo takes the initiative to prep you about the country, city, university, and the program before and once you are abroad. You will receive a health and safety packet specific to your country and city, and our Michigan-based staff is available via email or phone to answer any questions. In addition, your local Panrimo Coordinator gives a general overview of the city you’re in, discusses the people and culture at length, and supplies you with an emergency contact information card. Panrimo also registers you with the local U.S. Consulate.
Panrimo’s local Coordinator makes an effort to keep abreast of local events and changes in local health and safety, informing you of these changes when they occur. Our Coordinators and Michigan-based team subscribe to the U.S. State Department’s service and automatically receive all travel warnings and advisories of each program’s country and city as soon as they are issued.
Risk Assessment
Decisions about program emergencies are made referencing data from a number of sources. In addition to consular information and advisory messages posted by the U.S. Department of State (www.travel.state.gov), our emergency support staff use local information and contacts throughout the city and country to determine risk.
In the Event of a Local Emergency
- The Panrimo Coordinator overseas communicates with you, the student, as soon as possible to make sure all is OK, and to provide information, instructions, and advice.
- The Coordinator phones or goes in person to the local U.S. embassy or consulate to gather necessary information.
- Students are advised to contact their parents, guardians, or emergency contacts immediately.
- The Coordinator reports via phone and/or phone video conference to Panrimo’s main office in Michigan.
- The Panrimo Michigan office sends updated status reports via email or phone to the students’ university study abroad office within 24 hours.
- Depending on the level of concern, Panrimo’s Michigan office will contact students’ parents the same day of the emergency.
If you have any questions, please contact our Michigan office at info@panrimo.com, or call 248.686.2225.
