England

Human existence in England dates back almost a million years (actually 780,000, but what’s a couple hundred thousand?). Bison and mammoths roamed hillsides and crossed Pangea (a shout out to our namesake, woot woot!). Some guys built Stonehenge, Celtic lifestyle and songs were introduced and written, and the Dark Ages gave way to the Middle Ages and the Black Death.

Then a few hundred years of snooty imperialism and men named George and women named Elizabeth and Catherine bellowed through, and you’ve got what is now England: an island with immense history and tradition. That and really bad weather. What’s with all the rain, yo?!

In the end, England has produced some great men and women who have and continue to make the world a better place. English culture is distinctly its own, but don’t claim London as the lone city. Travel the countryside, head north to Tyne and Wear to tour Newcastle Brewery, to York for a theatre show, to the south where the city of Devon created the scone, and to the east for Suffolk’s uniquely difficult English accents.
